HISTORY & BIO

TragiComedy is a solo project by singer/songwriter Amitabh Chandra. After the demise of his previous band Amigone he went back to basics and just wanted to write and record simple catchy songs that the average non-music savy person could enjoy. It would just be simple songs about love, life and catchy choruses. In fact that's the concept for the album "Songs that Won't Sell".

With the help of AIM Award winning maverick producer Tan Chee Meng who has worked with the likes of Love Me Butch, Prana and Flop Poppy, the recording for the TragiComedy album started at the end of 2003. It all started with Never Lonely. In fact it was only intended to be a one-off single just to get radio airplay. But due to the great response to the song an album had to be recorded.

By early 2005 the album was nearing completion. It was a long process but it was recorded in a leisurely manner without any pressure or deadlines. In fact there were months in between when nothing was recorded. Amitabh even got married and went travelling in Europe with his wife just to get more inspiration in the middle of 2004. Coming back fresh and full of ideas really made a difference to the album.

So far a band has been put together to play live and showcase the songs. Made up of mainly close friends, the band has played Rock the World V and a few Musiccanteen gigs. There will be more gigs throughout the country in time to come.

The line-up of the live band thus far is- Amitabh: vocals& guitars, Chee Meng: lead guitars, Chris: bass, and Arul: drums.
